 REGARDING TRY-OUTS AND EVENT STANDARDS!

New Athletes and/or Incoming Freshman are required to participate and complete a minimum of 2 week try-outs in January. If you are in a Winter Sport, Spring try-outs   will be done the 1st week of February. Try-outs are  used to evaluate athletes for potential events.  There are no cuts for new athletes, but events are determined by the coaching staff, not athletes and/or parents.

Before any new athlete can participate in try-outs, they must complete the following, and turn in all forms directly to Coach Rasmussen.

  1. Please note that all athletes are required to have an athletic screening (physical) completed before participating in try-outs, and/or starting a sport.

  2. You must complete the new CIF Concussion test. Schedule an appointment with the Athletic Trainer Holli Jackson.

  3. Read and return completed pages of the Track Code of Ethics Packet (Currently being updated) at or before the Parent Meeting.

  4. Please have proper workout attire to train and tryout in.

If you  participated in the 2017-2018 Fall or Winter Sport at EHS, make sure you have been cleared by our School Athletic Trainer Holli Jackson

What happens at try-outs?

Try-outs are really just trials used to help evaluate an athletes ability.  Athletes are timed in the 100m and possibly the 400m, and also participate in a long jump.  The 100m demonstrates natural speed and power needed for sprint events.  The long jump demonstrates jumping ability for both the vertical and horizontal jumping events.  The 400m demonstrates natural strength and endurance needed for middle distance races.

What are Practice Event Standards?

Standards are generally used to assess the athletes’ ability.  Standards will also give the athlete an idea of the ability level for each event.  Again, coaches reserve the right to use their professional discretion in determining if an athlete is capable of competing on this team and in certain events.  Track is a team sport, not a part-time recreation. There are no part-time Track athletes! If you are in a club, find a club that has practices after 6:00 P.M.
